Languages

Also for non-native speakers

A language barrier should not be an obstacle to getting your driving licence. At Rijschool Denhaag we teach in multiple languages and adapt our explanations accordingly.

Teaching in your language

The Hague is an international city, and that is reflected in our students. From expats to newcomers: many of our students feel more comfortable with explanations in their own language. That is why we teach in Dutch, Turkish and English. For specific manoeuvres we explain in both languages so that you pick up Dutch traffic terminology alongside the technique itself.

This approach has a practical advantage: for the practical exam you need to understand the Dutch system. By actively using Dutch traffic terms alongside your native language during lessons, you naturally build up the vocabulary you will need on exam day.

Patience and respect

What sets us apart is patience. We know that learning to drive in a second language requires greater cognitive effort. Instructions are phrased more deliberately, we check more often that you have understood, and we take extra time over nuances. That makes the lesson a little calmer — and more effective.

Our non-native-speaking students are a diverse group: young people of Turkish background who grew up in the Netherlands, international students at university, expats working for international organisations. We adapt to every background. The goal remains the same: you behind the wheel, with a Dutch driving licence in your pocket.
