Driving exam with ADHD or dyslexia: what are your options?
Do you have a learning difference such as ADHD or dyslexia? Official accommodations are available at the CBR. We explain how it works for both the theory and the practical exam.
CBR accommodations for the theory exam
The CBR offers students with a recognised learning difference official accommodations for the theory exam. Examples include extra time, a read-aloud option where questions are read out, or a quieter exam environment. These accommodations are designed to ensure the test measures what it is meant to measure: knowledge of traffic, not reading speed.
To apply for an accommodation you need a statement from a recognised specialist — an educational psychologist, psychologist or doctor who made the diagnosis. You submit this statement to the CBR via Mijn CBR well before your exam date. The CBR reviews the application and confirms which accommodations are approved.
Please note: Rijschool Denhaag does not teach theory. For theory preparation we refer you to specialist providers such as ANWB Theorie, 123theorie or another accredited theory provider. They also have experience supporting students with learning differences.
Practical lessons and exam at Rijschool Denhaag
During practical lessons our instructors take your learning style into account. Students with ADHD often benefit from shorter, structured lessons with clear goals and immediate feedback. We adapt the pace and approach to what works for you — that is part of our personal approach.
For the practical exam itself, accommodations are also possible at the CBR, for example regarding the instructions or the briefing. Ask about this in good time via Mijn CBR. We accompany you to the CBR exam centre in Rijswijk and make sure you step into the car well prepared.
